smoothes quaternions by projecting them into tangential space and performing there smoothing spline approximation
The MTEX default filter. With alpha empty the smoothing parameter is chosen by generalized cross validation, which is why it needs no tuning in most cases. Not yet fully supported on hexagonal grids.
Syntax
F = splineFilter
F = splineFilter(alpha)
ebsd = smooth(ebsd,F)Input
| alpha | smoothing parameter, empty means choose it automatically |
| robust | down weight outliers, true by default |

| alpha | smoothing parameter |
| robust | robust smoothing |
| useEmbedding | smooth the isometric embedding instead of the tangent space |
| isHex | is the map on a hexagonal grid |
