Download MTEX

MTEX is free and open source under the GPL-2.0. It runs in MATLAB R2022b or newer and needs no further toolboxes.

mtex-7.2.0.zip
  1. Unzip the file into any folder.
  2. Start MATLAB and change to that folder.
  3. Run startup_mtex in the command window.
  4. Try mtexdata titanium and plot(ebsd), then follow the EBSD tutorial.

If it does not start

On its first start MTEX downloads its compiled binaries, so it needs an internet connection. When a binary is blocked or fails, Installation problems shows how to fetch or compile it, and how to build a standalone application with the MATLAB Compiler.

MATLAB versions

MTEX needs MATLAB R2022b or newer; use a release as recent as possible. MTEX works with the student version; only GND and Taylor computations need the Optimization Toolbox.

Development version

The newest code is on the develop branch on GitHub. Clone it with git to follow the development and to contribute.
